Thirty-four consecutive licence renewals

Interstate Mechanical & Construction has been licensed with the City of Chicago continuously since February 2002, with thirty-four consecutive renewals on the public record and a current licence, number 2084765, running to June 2028. The firm holds a General Contractor Class C licence alongside sixteen others with the City.

The permit record is the part worth checking rather than taking on trust. Four hundred and sixty-four permits filed, totalling more than $21.5m of permitted work, with a typical project around $80,000. That is the size of job we run every week: big enough to matter, small enough that you are not competing with a stadium for our attention.

The work is mechanical and construction in commercial, institutional and multi-family buildings, most of it in premises that stay open while we are in them. Rooftop plant swapped out overnight one unit at a time, tenant build-outs to an advertised opening date, boilers replaced in November without the building going cold.

The mechanical scope is self-performed, not subcontracted on. That matters because the sequencing that usually slips on a job is the handover between trades, and holding it inside one contract and one schedule is how a fixed date survives.
